What the BSI Kitemark means at our Sydenham site
The Kitemark for Vehicle Damage Repair is the British Standards Institution's certification for bodyshops, measured against a published British Standard, BS 10125:2022. A garage can't award it to itself. BSI checks the site by independent audit, and the certificate lists the kinds of repair it covers. Put simply, someone from outside the business has checked how cars are repaired here, rather than taking our word for it.
Our certificate number is KM 588116, held since 2012, and you can look it up on BSI's Kitemark directory.
The BSI listing for this site covers:
- repair preparation, dent removal and plastic repair
- refinishing, which is the paint
- steel joining (welding), cold joining (bonding and riveting) and body alignment
- autoglazing, meaning the car's glass
- road wheels, steering and suspension
- ADAS, the driver assistance systems such as parking sensors, cameras and automatic emergency braking
- SRS, the airbags
- low voltage electrics, mechanical systems and combustion engines
- mild and high voltage systems, which is the electrical side of hybrid and electric cars
That scope matters more on a newer car. A bumper might carry parking sensors or a radar unit, the windscreen might hold a camera, and a hybrid has high voltage cabling running through it. A repair can look right and still leave one of those systems not working.
Our Dartford site has held the same Kitemark since 2023.

London driving, and the damage it leaves
Not every repair here starts with a crash. Round SE26 plenty of cars live on narrow streets, parked nose to tail on both sides, and the damage comes from someone squeezing past: a folded mirror, a scraped wing, a dented rear door. Often there's no note under the wiper. If that's happened to you, start with our guide on what to do when someone hits your parked car.
Car parks do the same in a smaller space. Tight bays, concrete pillars in multi-storeys and doors swung open into yours leave scuffs on bumper corners and dings along the sills.
Then there are the main roads. The South Circular (A205) is often stop-start, which is where low-speed shunts from behind come from. Bus lanes add their own risk: pulling out past a stopped bus, or crossing a bus lane to turn into a side road, leaves you very little view of what's coming, and that's how side swipes happen.
Potholes are the other one. On a red route like the South Circular, Transport for London is responsible for the road. Borough roads round here belong to Lewisham or, south of the border, Bromley.
Non-fault claims, fault claims and courtesy cars
If another driver caused the accident, ring us before you ring your insurer. We'll recover the costs from the at-fault driver's insurer, so nothing goes through your own policy. That means:
- a replacement car similar to yours while yours is repaired, at no cost to you
- no excess to pay
- your no claims bonus isn't affected
- independent insurance engineers inspect the car and agree the repair cost, or give a fair written valuation if it isn't worth repairing
- we pursue all the compensation you're owed on your behalf
If the accident was your fault, call us anyway. We'll give your insurer an estimate, get it approved and do the work, and we put £150 towards your excess. If your insurer doesn't give you a courtesy car, we may be able to lend you one from our own fleet.
You can usually choose where your car is repaired, but read your policy first. Some insurers add a higher excess, cap what they'll pay, or won't provide a courtesy car if you don't use their approved garage. Tell your insurer before any work starts. Newbridge has been insurance approved since 2005. We've belonged to the VBRA (Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association) for just as long.

At 60 Kangley Bridge Road in Lower Sydenham, London SE26 5BA, a turning off Southend Lane (A2218) near Bell Green, with Lower Sydenham station close by. It's in the London Borough of Lewisham, and Beckenham and the Bromley border are just to the south. Put the postcode in your sat nav, and call 020 8659 2221 if you can't spot the entrance.
02Is the Sydenham site BSI Kitemark certified?
Yes. Our Sydenham site has held the BSI Kitemark for Vehicle Damage Repair since 2012, under certificate KM 588116. It's assessed against BS 10125:2022 and checked by independent audit. The listing for this site covers bodywork, paint, welding, glass, wheels, steering and suspension, driver assistance systems, airbags, and the high voltage systems in hybrid and electric cars.
03Can you repair hybrid and electric cars in Sydenham?
Yes. The BSI Kitemark scope for our Sydenham site includes mild and high voltage systems, the certificate's term for the electrical side of hybrid and electric cars. Accident damage can reach high voltage cabling, and that has to be dealt with safely before any bodywork starts. Tell us the make and model when you call so we can plan the job properly.
04Should I call my insurer or Newbridge first after an accident?
If the other driver was to blame, call us first on 020 8659 2221. We can run the claim against their insurer, so you don't claim on your own policy, don't pay an excess and keep your no claims bonus intact. If it was your fault, or you aren't sure yet, still call: we'll explain your options and work with your insurer where that's the right route.
05Are you open on Saturdays in Sydenham?
No. The Sydenham site is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. If your car is damaged over a weekend, send photos and a short description through our online quote form and we'll get back to you once we're open again on Monday.
06Is Kangley Bridge Road in Lewisham or Bromley?
Lewisham. Our Sydenham site is in the London Borough of Lewisham, in Bellingham ward, and Bromley borough starts just to the south at Beckenham. It matters if a pothole damaged your car: borough roads near us are maintained by Lewisham or Bromley council, while red routes such as the South Circular (A205) are the responsibility of Transport for London.
07Can I get a courtesy car from Newbridge Sydenham?
Usually, yes. In a non-fault claim you get a replacement car similar to yours while your own is being repaired, and it costs you nothing. In a fault claim your insurer may provide a courtesy car; if they don't, we may be able to lend you one from our own fleet. It depends on the claim, so ask when you book the car in.
