Scratch, dent and car body repair for Rayleigh drivers
From the Rayleigh Weir, Newbridge Accident Repair Centre is about 12 minutes along the A127, roughly 6.5 miles in all. Our Basildon workshop, at Newbridge House, Swinbourne Road, Burnt Mills Industrial Estate, SS13 1EF (01268 590 722), handles car body repair for Rayleigh drivers: scratches and dents, accident management with a replacement car when it wasn't your fault, and repairs to lease cars before they go back.
Getting to our car body repair workshop from Rayleigh
Head for the Rayleigh Weir on the A129 and join the A127 westbound, towards Basildon. After about 4 miles, leave at the A132 and follow Courtauld Road onto the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate. The postcode for the sat nav is SS13 1EF. Check the Basildon branch page for opening hours before you set off.
If you'd rather not do the A127 twice, we can collect the car from you in Rayleigh and drop it back once it's done. Rayleigh is comfortably inside the 20 miles we cover from Basildon.
Scratch and dent repair
Scraped bumper corners, car park dents in doors, key scratches along a wing and chips across the bonnet: smaller damage like this is what our minor car repairs cover, using smart repairs, dent removal, scratch removal, bumper scuff repair and stone chip repair.
How much work a mark needs varies. A light surface scratch is a smaller repair than one that's gone through to the primer or bare metal, and a dent with the paint intact isn't the same repair as one where the paint has cracked. Send us photos and we'll tell you what yours needs, and whether it's worth doing at all.
Got a deadline, like a sale or a lease return date? Our express repairs line fast-tracks small jobs, usually in around 48 hours.
Accident management with a replacement car
Accident management is the claims side of a non-fault accident: dealing with the other driver's insurer, arranging the repair, getting you something to drive in the meantime and chasing what you're owed. When the crash was the other driver's fault, we do all of it, and their insurer foots the bill.
What you get is a replacement car of a similar kind to yours, at no cost, until your own car is repaired. No excess. Nothing claimed on your policy, so your no claims bonus is left alone. An independent engineer checks the damage and agrees the repair cost, and if repair doesn't make economic sense, you get a fair valuation in writing instead.
The one thing to get right is the order: call us on 01268 590 722 first, and your insurer second. The non-fault accident claims page has the full detail.
Lease return repairs in Rayleigh
Lease companies charge for damage beyond fair wear and tear when you hand a car back, and each one sets its own terms. As a starting point, this is what the BVRLA fair wear and tear guide accepts:
| Damage | What the BVRLA guide accepts |
|---|---|
| Scratches | Up to 25mm, with no primer or bare metal showing, and no more than four per panel |
| Dents | 15mm or less with the paint unbroken, no more than two per panel, and none on the roof or a swage line |
| Stone chips | Under 3mm, up to four per panel |
| Alloy wheel scuffs | Up to 50mm in total around the rim |
| Tyre sidewalls | No damage accepted |
Anything beyond that may be charged, depending on your agreement. We'll inspect the car against your lease company's terms, point out the marks likely to cost you, and price the repairs so you can decide what's worth fixing before the inspection.
Returning several company cars or vans at once? Our de-fleet packages cover repairs and signage removal, with vehicles scheduled in and out so they're off the road for as little time as possible, and weekend working to get them back on the road by Monday. See lease return repairs, or read our guide to what counts as fair wear and tear.

Questions
01Will a small dent count against me when I return my lease car?
Not necessarily. The BVRLA fair wear and tear guide accepts dents of 15mm or less if the paint isn't broken, up to two per panel. A dent on the roof or along a swage line (the styling crease pressed into a panel) isn't acceptable at any size. Your lease company sets its own terms, so check your agreement, or ask us to look the car over first.
02Which route do I take from Rayleigh?
The A127. Join it westbound at the Rayleigh Weir, stay on for roughly 4 miles, then take the A132 exit and follow Courtauld Road onto the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate in Basildon. It's about 6.5 miles and usually around 12 minutes. Put SS13 1EF into the sat nav and it'll bring you to the estate.
03Can you repair kerbed alloys before a lease car goes back?
Yes. Under the BVRLA guide, scuffs up to 50mm in total around the rim are acceptable, so anything more than that is worth looking at before the handback. We refurbish kerbed, scuffed and corroded alloys at the Basildon workshop. A cracked or buckled wheel, though, has to be checked before anything else, as it may need replacing.
04What does accident management include?
Everything after a non-fault accident that you'd otherwise have to chase yourself. We deal with the other driver's insurer, arrange the repair, get you a car to drive that's similar to your own at no cost and pursue the compensation you're owed. You pay no excess, and because nothing is claimed on your policy, your no claims bonus is unaffected.
05What if the other driver didn't stop or wasn't insured?
You can still claim, through the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which handles claims involving uninsured and untraced drivers. Report the accident to the police. Many fully comp policies also include an uninsured driver promise, so check yours. Our guide to being hit by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver explains what happens next.
